Campmaster Corps


In the late-1990s the Camp Lowden Campmasters Corps was formed. The campmasters are a group of Scouters who give their time to help out by operating Camp Lowden on the weekends so the Camp Ranger can assume other responsibilities. Campmaster duties include checking units in and out of camp; serving as a “friendly face” and central point of contact to act as camp liaison for units; performing periodic site visits, etc. Ideally, each weekend should have a Campmaster.

Campmasters must have a record of demonstrated ability to get along with people, to lead, and to act in an emergency. Campmasters must have a working knowledge of Scouting, troop operations, Scout advancement, and Webelos Scout camping.

Basic Campmaster duties include:
  • Check units in and out of camp
  • Serve as a “friendly face” and central point of contact to act as camp liaison for units
  • Perform periodic site visits to ensure that all needs of the unit are met satisfactorily
  • Render commissioner-type service to the units in camp, working with and through the youth leaders and adult leaders
  • In event of breakdown/mechanical emergency know where to turn off problem
  • Advise the Ranger of any potential problem or safety issues

Whatever time you may be able to give would be greatly appreciated. In doing so, we will all benefit by preserving the camps for future generations of youth to enjoy.
