Camp Staff Job Descriptions



The following are brief descriptions for Camp Lowden staff positions. Although each staff member has his or her specific job description, it takes everyone on the camp staff to operate the summer camp. You may be asked to work outside of your area of assignment, but by working together we will have a successful summer camp.

A staff application can be downloaded from the council Web site. Please print the application, fill it out, and return it to the council office. Please keep in mind that some of the positions may already be filled.



Waterfront Director
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Certifiable as an Aquatics Director at the BSA National Camp School. Responsible for the administration of the waterfront program.
  • Supervise and direct the waterfront staff to maintain a safe and meaningful waterfront program.
Waterfront Assistant
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Completion of the following merit badges: Swimming, Lifesaving, Canoeing, and Rowing.
  • Scout Lifeguard Certification preferred, but not required.
  • Job includes instruction in the above merit badges and lifeguarding.


High Adventure Director
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have an interest in rappelling, canoeing, and programs that would challenge Scouts.
  • Should be eligible to attend BSA National Camp School.


Nature Director
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must Be eligible for BSA National Camp School Certification.
  • Knowledge of all the areas relating to nature and the ecology of the camp.
Nature Assistant
  • Knowledge of the merit badges that are offered in the nature area.
  • Helpful if you have the major merit badges taught in ecology.


Handicraft Director
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have an interest in the crafts and artwork that is taught in this area.
  • It is helpful if you have the merit badges that are offered in the handicraft area.
Handicraft Assistant
  • Must have knowledge in the handicraft area.
  • You will assist the Director with the instruction of the merit badges that are offered in the handicraft area.


Scoutcraft Assistant
  • Knowledge of the scouting skills of camping, cooking, pioneering, and wilderness survival.
  • Knowledge of axemanship, basic compass skills, knots, and basic nature skills also necessary.


Archery Director
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have knowledge of archery.
  • Will supervise the operation of the archery range.
Shooting Sports Assistant
  • Knowledge of archery, rifle and shotgun.
  • Help supervise the operation of the archery and rifle range.


Dining Hall Director
  • Responsible for the operation and function of the dining hall.
  • Assist the cook with the prep of dining hall meals.
  • Supervise and help the kitchen assistants with the cleaning of the kitchen and dining hall facilities.
Kitchen Assistant
  • Usually a beginning position on a camp staff.
  • Work in the dining hall with the dishes and the preparation of the camp meals.
  • Work directly for the Camp Cook and Dining Hall Director.
Commissary Assistant
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the camp commissary and the issuing of the materials from the building.
  • Will also be responsible for packing of food for campsite cooking.


Trading Post Director
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of store operation and inventory.
  • Responsible for the ordering and accounting for the income of the camp trading post.
