Merit Badges

Camp Lowden offers a wide variety of merit badges that can be earned during summer camp. On Sunday night Scouts will meet the merit badge counselors. Scouts should be prepared before they get to camp and then let each Scout do his own work with the camp counselors.

At the end of the week Scoutmasters will receive either the signed completed merit badge applications or partial completion forms. Each Scout should complete partials at home with another counselor. A Scout has until his eighteenth birthday to finish any merit badge.

Whether or not a Scout will successfully complete a merit badge is often determined the first two days in camp. Scoutmasters should know where their Scouts are every day and regularly check their merit badge program. Progress reports for each Scout will be available at daily leader meetings.

Aquatics
Scouts participating in Aquatics merit badges (Swimming, Lifesaving, Canoeing, Rowing) will need extra towels, long-sleeve button shirt, sneakers, sweatshirt, long pants and a belt. Be sure the parents of your Scouts know all of these clothes will get wet!

Scouts working on the Cooking merit badge will need to bring to camp the following: food lists, price lists, weights, and grocery ads from several week’s newspapers.  Paperwork should be done prior to camp.
